The Blackheath Royal Standard Village Association is a group
of people committed to the Blackheath Heath Royal Standard area in the Royal
Borough of Greenwich. We strongly believe that the Blackheath Royal Standard is
an area in our beautiful borough that needs to be maintained instead of
ignored, after all the Blackheath Royal Standard is the main gateway to the old
Greenwich and the old gateway to London. It was the first part of Blackheath to
be built on and is rich in history, for more information on the history of the
area please go to the About Us page where you will find more detailed information.
The group was set up in March 2013 and the current aims of
the group are to:
- * See the old Blackheath Royal Standard finger
post sign re-erected in the central area of the Blackheath Royal Standard. This
sign feel down years ago and was never replaced. We want people to know where
they are!
- * A Local history board erected in the Blackheath
Royal Standard telling visitors about the areas rich history.
- * We want a village sign erected in the centre of
the green completing the rebranding of the area as a village. We want the
Blackheath Royal Standard to reflect the pride of its local residents!
These aims are our current three short term aims of the
group, they are what we are currently campaigning for. More long term we would
like to see the Royal Borough of Greenwich Council to recognise and acknowledge
the Blackheath Royal Standard as a village and treat it as such and also we
would like to see the old toilets opposite the Royal Standard pub turned into a
local history hub to attract tourists to the area!
